Kigela is found in our Serum and Moisturiser. Our Kigelia is fair-trade certified and sustainably wild harvested by farmers in Malawi.

The Sausage Tree (Kigelia africana) grows in the wet savannah and near riverbanks in South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Southern Mozambique.

Traditional African healers have used kigelia to treat a wide range of skin ailments for thousands of years. For a blemish-free complexion, Shangaan and Tonga women use a mixture of Kigelia fruit pulp and water on their faces. Women in Eastern Africa use Kigelia as a skin tightening and breast firming ointment. The dried fruit is also used as a loofah.

THE FLOWERS OF THE SAUSAGE TREE
One night a year the flowers of the Sausage Tree open. Their sweet nectar is drunk by bats, baboons, monkeys, sunbirds, and other creatures. African bats pollinate the flowers of the Sausage Tree.
